Thanks for taking the time to look at our website. We are Jeff and Sarah Ascough, two professional photographers based in the North West of England. We met in 1989, got married in 1994, and have been inseparable ever since.
We have dedicated our entire lives to the art and craft of photography. Taking pictures is how we have earned our living for over 25 years, and it is also how we like to relax. We honestly do live and breathe photography.
Our photography is all about people; the exploration of the relationships people have with each other and the environment around them. So if we aren’t shooting a wedding, you will often find us covering the streets and landscapes of wherever we are in the world.
We always work together. That’s what makes us so unique. We know each other inside out and even though our images reflect each other’s personality, they sit alongside each other harmoniously.
Documentary wedding photography
Jeff first brought the 'fly-on-the-wall' street and documentary style to Britain in the mid 1990’s. Industry bible, American Photo, in their inaugural list of the ten best wedding photographers in the world, acknowledged this when they wrote, “The first photographer in the UK to shoot weddings with a photojournalist’s style.”
Today we continue to be recognised as pioneers of this style of wedding photography and even though our photographic coverage now includes elements of portrait, street, and landscape photography, the concept of photographing a wedding in real time without influencing what is happening in front of the camera, remains the most important thing to us. We both strive to produce compelling, authentic images which are timeless and emotive. Both of us are passionate about complex composition and light but Sarah likes to bring a sense of humour to her photography while Jeff focuses on mood and atmosphere.
Internationally recognised photography
Both of us have been internationally published and our wedding photography is recognised throughout the world. Individually, our wedding pictures have appeared in; The Washington Post, Newsweek, Süeddutsche Zeitung, Elle, The Mirror, Adore Noir, American Photo, British Journal of Photography, The Photographer, The Master Photographer, Practical Photography, Just Married, Wedding Photography Select, Professional Photographer USA, Photo Pro, USA Today, Rangefinder, Digital Pro, CPN, The Wedding Vine, Rock My Wedding, You & Your Wedding, Brides, Wedding & Home, and many others.
Destination wedding photography
We are based in the North West but our work has taken us across the length and breadth of the UK and Europe. During the past five years alone we have covered weddings in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, and Romania. We are vastly experienced when it comes to working overseas and truly enjoy the challenge that working in a different countries provides.
Celebrity wedding photographers
Variety is the spice of life and that is so true when it comes to weddings. We have photographed weddings for people from all walks of life and enjoy the variety that our diverse client base brings. Our smallest wedding was for just six people and the largest for over 500. Along the way we have covered one or two well known faces, but what makes us unique within the celebrity wedding scene, is that every one of our clients has booked us directly. We have never been the faceless photographers brought in by a wedding planner. As such we are used to dealing with image rights, non disclosure agreements, agents, magazines and press.
Our wedding clients include; ‘Radiohead' guitarist Ed O’Brien, 'Liberty X' singer Jessica Taylor and England cricket star Kevin Pietersen, TV star and 'Strictly Come Dancing' winner Jill Halfpenny, 'Baywatch' and '24' star John Allen Nelson and model and actress Justine Eyre, 'The Doors' and Elvis Presley bass player Jerry O. Scheff, England football legend Kevin Keegan for his daughter Laura, 'Roxy Music' guitarist Phil Manzanera for his daughter Chloe, Lady Rebecca MacMillan, Amy Winehouse’s brother Alex, TV and West End star Ian Kelsey, celebrity lawyer and daytime TV star Dean Dunham, Leicester Tigers RFC chairman Peter Tom, TV presenter Libby Potter, TV and West End Actress and Laurence Olivier Award nominee Nicola Hughes, Rolling Stones photographer Michael Joseph for his son Jay, footballers Ian Taylor, Scott Dann, Danny Graham, Jermaine Beckford, Chris Riggott, and Steve Elliott.
An unusual surname
From Jeff’s first days at school, people have tried to come to grips with our surname. Admittedly, it isn’t the easiest surname to pronounce. It’s origins are firmly in the North - the records can’t decide if it was in Yorkshire or Lancashire that the name originated - but we have family in Yorkshire and we live in Lancashire so we should have it covered between us all. By far the most common pronunciation of Ascough is “Ay-scoe” but the correct one is actually “As-coff” but it doesn't really matter, we pretty much answer to anything :)
